Do You Believe in Your Dreams?

If you are going to be successful in creating the life of your dreams, you have to believe that you can make it happen.

You have to believe you have the potential and are capable of achieving what you’ve never done before. You have to believe in yourself. Whether you call it self-esteem, self-confidence, or self-assurance, it is a deep-seated belief that you have what it takes – the abilities, inner resources, talents, and skills to live the passionate and purposeful life you desire.

Bottom line, to achieve your dreams you must learn to control your negative self-talk, eliminate limiting beliefs, and maintain a positive attitude where persistence and determination will move you in the pathway of your expectations.

Control Your Self-Talk to Over Come Limiting Beliefs
Researchers have found that the average person thinks as many as 50,000 thoughts a day. Unfortunately, many of those thoughts are negative — I’m not smart enough… I’ll never learn how to do that… Nobody in my family ever succeeded, neither will I… It doesn’t matter what I do, nothing ever works out for me.

This is what psychologists call victim language. I call it loser language. Loser language feeds a loser state of mind. By focusing on what is wrong versus right, by looking at problems more that solutions, by feeding a lack consciousness versus inputting thoughts of gratitude, will manifest more negative thoughts. Repetition of negativity eventually has you believing that you are totally incompetent, miserable, and NOTHING good is ever going to happen to you. Of course we know that is NOT true.

In order to get what you want from life, you need to give up this loser language and start talking to yourself like a winner — I can do it… I know there is a solution… I am smart enough to figure this out. I will keep on doing the best I can and eventually my dream will become a reality.

“Your mind believes what you tell it…” —Paul J. Meyer

Winners train relentlessly, until they are in good enough condition to run the race before them. Only disciplined positive thinkers can endure the rough terrain along the pathway to success. Dreams are never achieved overnight. Only those brave and committed souls, determined to achieve their dream in spite of strong opposition and challenges, will reach their dream destination.

Programming Your Subconscious Mind
Your subconscious mind is like a sponge. You control what the sponge soaks up. It is your job to prevent over saturation and squeeze out the useless dirty water.

The sponge, like your mind, soaks up everything you say and hear. The mind must soak up what is put into it. It just blindly soaks up information, regardless of whether it is true or not. When you say, “I am never going to make it,” the sponge simply soaks up that thought and it becomes apart of the sponge.

When you keep soaking up negative thoughts, in time the heavy sponge becomes weighed down by a moldy mass of stinkin’ thoughts.

On the other hand, if you say, “I can do it. I am learning. I am growing.” the sponge will begin to cleanse itself. What ever thoughts you soak up most often will be those that dictate the quality of life you live. They will either produce the sparkling clean results of your dreams and desires, or they will produce the moldy results of the stinkin’ thinkin’ your mind is dominated by.

This power of your subconscious mind is why it is important to pay careful attention to the words you speak and internal voice you listen to. Most people don’t realize their negative self-talk is saturated with stinkin’ thinkin’. I personally had to ask a dear friend to monitor and identify the dominating force of my thinking; negative or positive. I was shaken by how much stinkin’ thinkin’ ruled my thought life.

The voice I listened to seemed to be the critical voice of people in my past. Who I am, and who I pictured in my mind, were very different. I lived my life trying to be what my parents, peers, preachers, and politicians said I “should” be. I lived a lie. It wasn’t until I dared to go after my own dreams and live by the beliefs my heart knew were true to me, did I find my authenticity and fulfillment.

Cast out the Self Critic to Build Self-Confidence
One of the most powerful tools for casting out the stinkin’ thinkin’ thoughts from your mind is to overpower them with positive thoughts and affirmations. Pouring in a fresh supply of positive thoughts builds self-worth and self-confidence. Eventually, by the principal of repetition, positive statements become a natural part of the way you think.

Lack of self-esteem is a fairly common personal trait found in various segments of our society, with young and old. It can hold back our progress, put us under extreme stress, and make us feel generally bad about life.

Low self-esteem can build inside us for many years with the aid of stinkin’ thinkin’. Fortunately stinkin’ thinkin’ can be replaced with good thinking. Whenever self-doubt or the self-critic creeps in, quickly replace these negative thoughts with a good image of yourself and your past achievements.

“A person who doubts himself is like a man who would enlist in the ranks of his enemies and bear arms against himself. He makes his failure certain by himself being the first person to be convinced of it.” – Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870)

Enjoy being yourself! It is much better to be you than to pretend to be someone else. Accept that we are all just human beings and forget trying to be perfect in the eyes of others. If those who are not superstars, millionaires, and intellectuals are cast out it would be a very empty world.

Create a list of 5 to 10 affirmations that develop a strong belief in yourself and your ability to achieve the life of your dreams. When the self-critic speaks, speak affirmations back.

Here are some examples of positive affirmations:

I am smart and make wise choices.
I am loveable, capable, and add value to the world.
I am a human being worthy of love, dignity and respect.
I can accomplish anything I set my mind to achieving.
I am able to solve any problem that comes my way.
I can overcome any challenge that life presents me.
I believe in my dreams and am attracting all the right people into my life to support me.

What ones can you think of? Try to come up with 5:
1. _______________________________________________________________________

2. _______________________________________________________________________

3. _______________________________________________________________________

4. _______________________________________________________________________

5. _______________________________________________________________________

Believing in Yourself is an Attitude
Believing in your self is not natural. It’s an attitude you develop over time. We all are responsible for our own self-concept and our own beliefs. The latest brain research indicates that with enough positive self-talk, positive visualization, proper training, good support systems and practice, anyone can accomplish the seemingly impossible.

You must be committed to believing that you can do anything you set your mind to – ANYTHING AT ALL – because, in fact, you can!

If you thought it, you can achieve it. Now BELIEVE it!
