 Without a clear goal, life is nothing more than taking a trip without a map.  How will you know where to go or even know you have reached your ideal destination once you get there?    

  • Pretend the year is over, what do you want to have happened most? 
  • What three things, more than anything else, will you be thrilled about most when you accomplish them?

One thing I have learned time and time again in life is that when I have a passionate worthwhile and challenging goal that is attainable yet a stretch to grow from, I can become frustrated, unfocused, and find I doubt my ability to make my dreams really happen.

For me personally, and many others, having any more than 3 big goals at a time is suicidal.  You are more susceptable to sinking deep into the quick sand of overwhelm and become so brain drained cluttered, no real lasting success can result to rescue you from this trap. 

Fatal distractions, a common barrier to success,  happen when you are sidetracked and take on too many things.  Typically your “to do” list grows and few things get crossed off.  

Want some Simple Tips to overcome these issues? 

Today we are going to share some Lori Bestler “to do” tips to grow on. 

Ideally the tips below will, if you are willing to take action on one or two ideas you read about, you just may move past the barriers that have kept you stuck from achieving the success you desire. 

  • My first rule of thumb is to date everything I write on my “to do” list.
  • I prioritize this list according to what goals I am accomplishing RIGHT NOW.
  • In the event that a “to do” activity has been on my list more than one month, I cross it off and add the activity to a computer file I title IDEAS.  In this file I have folders, such as Speaking, Training, Coaching, Marketing, Networking, Orgainzing.  My “to do’s” will usually fall into one of these catagories for my business.  I then type the “to do” activity in a document (if I feel it is still important to my focused goals) and remember to date it. 

What I have discovered is that I feel stressed when I throw something away.  Fearing I really need it.  When I give myself permission to keep it but put it away so it is out of sight and mind, it no longer demands my attention. 

Then eventually, maybe once or twice a year, I go through the idea lists.  I find that I can remove a ton of these activities, realizing they were not really necessary.  I ask myself, “self” is this something you will use in the next 3-6 months?  If no, then toss it.  There is a ton of information and new ideas to grow on at your fingertips every day.  

Manage a manageable “to do” list to achieve your goals and you most likely will do just that.
